Interesting facts about festivals before Diwali πŸŽ‰πŸ’₯πŸ’₯

               Diwali is one of the festivals of India which is celebrated in various forms across different states. Each state celebrates Diwali as per their traditions and customs but the common thing of Diwali festival is celebration with different types of lamps (Diyas), fire crackers, sweets. There are some small festivals with mythological connection which are celebrated before Diwali.

 Diwali festival starts with Vasu Baras which is also called Gowatsa Dwadashi. As per Hindu traditions, this is the day for worshiping of Cow as it is supposed to be divine animal on earth. As per the Hindu calendar, it falls on the 12th day of Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin. It is believed that when gods and demons were churning the ocean for nectar, a cow called Kamadhenu emerged out of the ocean. This divine cow was the outcome of Samudra Manthan which was gifted  to the seven sages by the Gods, and in course of time came into the possession of Sage Vasishta. It has the capacity to fulfill all wishes and desires of its owner. It is believed that on the day of Vasu baras, there is an emission of sacred rays of blessings from the cow in the form of Vishnu. Therefore it is a belief that, those who worship the cow with her little calf  on Vasu Baras gets blessings of Lord Vishnu.

             The next day after Vasu Baras is celebrated as  Dhanteras. It is celebrated to worship the Lord Dhanwantari who emerged from Samudra Manthan. As per mythological stories it is supposed to be Vaidya of all Gods and it has Amrut kalash (Divine Water) in one hand and divine shlokas of Ayurveda remedies in another hand. This day is celebrated for good health,wealth and prosperity of mankind.

                 As per Hindu traditions one more ritual is celebrated in the evening of Dhanteras called Yamdipdaan. For this people pray the god of Death - Yama by lighting a Lamp or Diya made of  rice flour facing towards south direction. It is believed that this ritual prevent  mankind from evil effects and unnatural deaths and extremities. People celebrate this day by distributing sweets and purchasing gold,silver ornaments and other valuable articles.
